Does everybody love to travel?
I can’t really tell how many (men) profiles I read on a dating site, but I can certainly say that only a handful of them didn’t have „I love travelling” or „I am a well-travelled man” affirmations in their self-summaries.
So many felt lost, frustrated and terribly angry
for not being able to travel during the pandemic. It must have been a living hell.
Not me. I was okay with not being able to leave
the country or even the house. I am an indoor person.
I am also an immigrant. I move from one country
to another, from a city to a village, from mountain to sea etc.
I don’t have the heart of a nomad; I don’t like
travelling. It’s stressful, tiring and time-consuming. Despite that, I travel a
lot. It’s mostly not by choice. Not for leisure. I visit friends or family around
the world.
If I could, I’d never leave the house.
When I was a child in a communist country, I
dreamed about visiting Egypt. I so very much wanted to see the pyramids. I was
fascinated by them, as I was fascinated by the Triangle of the Bermudas, Atlántida,
or the legends of the Olympus.
But Ceausescu didn’t allow us to leave the
country. You had to pay a certain amount of money to visit other countries. We
couldn’t afford that.
I love reading… I travel everywhere in this universe
and those that don’t exist, from the comfort of a chair or a bed.
I am interested in psychology, and human behaviour,
therefore I have countless journeys in people’s minds.
Then, there is the internet. One can see everything
they want online.
Of course, seeing things and places in person makes
one feel different kinds of emotions. I am not chasing this sort of excitement.
The only reason I would love to travel (nowadays)
is to try the food of every country on the planet. I love spices, and food (fruits, vegetables).
Why do you travel?
What do you hope to see, find, and gain?
Are you seeking someone or something?
Are you sure that someone or something isn’t in
front of you?
Exploration of the world... seeing rather than being, forgetting or ignoring humans and humanity.
Are we running from something or towards someone?
This being said, against everything I wrote above, this year, 2022, I travelled and spent quite some in Italy, Germany, Bulgaria and Romania.
I also travelled in England too, where I am based now.
I thought it was a matter of practice.
Maybe it is, I don't know. All I know is that I struggled and forced myself to see the positives in it.
Because when I was there... by the sea, I thought it was heaven. But to get there I went through hell.
Well, not really.
It wasn't easy or nice.
Of course, there are so many places that weren't seen or immortalised in movies or pictures.
